short sale-taxes?

September 19th, 2012 at 01:02 pm

Well not much has changed since I last blogged. Our savings is about the same although I haven't been using our credit cards and have paid down some on them!

We have gotten an offer on our house though. However, we are worried about not closing by the end of the year and missing out on the mortgage relief tax credit. I was wondering if anyone knew about filing for insolvency when doing our taxes if it took longer than the end of the year? Would we be able to include our mortgage? We owe $180,000 and the offer is for $101,000. Does that mean we would be insolvent by $79,000? We don't have any equity in our vehicles and I think our credit card debt would cancel out our cash. So so confused...

You described the situation, but in order to get answers to your questions, you should seek help from tax specialists.

I, too, was looking for the answer to such a question and clearly no one could answer me, but I took the decision of early repayment of most of my mortgage loan by the end of this period.
